What is Backyard Missions?

Playing princess at work

Today's a Saturday. It's normally the only day I get to sleep in late, but most of the time, I'm awake by 9.30am.

Later I will be going down to the Tower of Incense with some youths to do some Backyard Missions. What's Backyard Missions?

They're short-term (I mean, seriously short-term - think two to three hours!) mission trips you can carry out in your surrounding neighborhood or community. It's a breath of fresh air from boarding a plane for three hours to a foreign country to carry out the same works you can do in your backyard.

Backyard Missions is also a great springboard for those who are seriously thinking about doing missions work. Why? Well, it gives you a taste of what working for the community is like! There's no glitz or glamor about it. No one will give two hoots if you went out of your comfort zone to accomplish a task. It's just labor for the kingdom of God, pure and simple.

What I'm referring to here is the physical part of missions and evangelism. There's the connection part of missions that's equally important as well - engaging with your immediate community to make an impact in their lives. To change their lives with the love of Jesus.

But that's a story for another day! I've got to go now.

Have a super weekend!

PS: My convocations' tomorrow! :D
